5 Simple Ways to Love Your Heart:
It's not hard to reduce your risk for heart disease. Start today with small, simple actions like these:

Begin with a checkup. Take the Go Red Heart Check-up at www.goredwomen.com/hcu and learn your risk in just minutes! With only a few simple clicks find out how you can help win the fight against heart disease.

Get up off the couch. Step, march or jog in place for at least 30 minutes most days of the week - you can even do it while watching TV. Learn how by joining www.choosetomove.org, a 12 week program designed to get busy women moving.

Quit Smoking in four steps: Can't go cold turkey? Cut the number of cigarettes you smoke each day in half; then cut that number in half; cut it in half again; finally cut down to zero!

Drop a pound or two. To lose one to two pounds a week, you need to cut 500 to 1000 calories a day.

Become a salt detective. Check out the nutrition facts panel on packaged foods to see how much sodium (salt) they contain. Aim for a total intake of 2,300 milligrams or less (about a teaspoon of salt) a day. Get smart about heart disease.

Did you know....You can choose sensible cereal when shopping at the store, but when was the last time you checked how much of the stuff you've been pouring into your breakfast bowl? How about those bags of baked chips and other low-fat snacks? Just because the bag is small and the label says 100 calories or so, that doesn't mean there's only one serving per bag! You could be accounting for only a single serving but actually consuming much more. to get back on track, break out the measuring cups and scales, and always check the "servings per container" section of product labels!

Quick Tip... Food labels can under estimate calories, fiber and sodium amounts. Consume with caution.
