Myth...

Working out hard on weekends will keep me in shape.

Reality...
Being a weekend warrior may sound like a good plan for those of you too busy to get to the gym during the week, but the idea that you can pound your body for hours to make up for a week's worth of inactivity is faulty. It's also one of the leading causes of injury. Whether it's with a game of pickup basketball or too-long run, overexerting yourself on the weekend to compensate for the rest of the week is both ineffective and risky. You will not train your muscles, heart, or lungs effectively, and the soreness that results may keep you from being able to get off the couch for days. To really get in shape, consistency is key, even if that means just a 30-minute workout most days of the week.

Fatigue and Acupuncture

Fatigue can be defined as a chronic lack of energy. It is most often due to poor quality sleep or sluggish digestion. If you have difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep or are waking up tired after at least 7 hours of rest, you are experiencing poor quality sleep. If you get bloated or sleepy after meals your digestion maybe slow and you are not getting the nutrition you need from your food. (Food choices are also a factor as it affects blood sugar and blood sugar imbalances can also lead to fatigue.)

According to the National Institutes of Health, acupuncture is an excellent treatment option for fatigue as it helps regulate the hormones involved in both sleep and digestive function. Acupuncture induces deep and restful sleep and promotes proper digestion allowing your body to convert food into energy.

Did You Know...

a well known website reported that a Trader Joe's product under reported calories…..

Here is a portion of the update - Earlier this summer, our web-site warned you that we had suspicions about the accuracy of the nutrition info for Trader Joe's Chili Lime Chicken Burgers. Immediately after our email went out, the burgers were pulled from shelves. The owner of the company that manufactures the product (who was extremely concerned and is an all-around genuine and lovely fellow) had the product re-tested, and the burgers are now back on shelves with new nutritional stats. They went from having 110 calories, 3g fat, 4g carbs, and 1g fiber to having 150 calories, 6g fat, 3g carbs, and 2g fiber. Thanks to all of you for following up at your local TJ's.

Helpful Hint….This is why it is always important to slightly over estimate even packaged foods. You must always leave room for human error and calorie variability in all foods. Hooray for Trader Joe’s for always doing the right thing and for being a great store!
